We speak to singer, songwriter and producer, Parichay about his
music and what plans are in store for 2011
Tell me how you got into music?
At the age of 13 I participated in Zee TV's Antakshari, it was the
first time I was exposed to the whole limelight thing, the stage,
the TV, camera, action and so on, which gave me the motivation and
desire to pursue my dreams in terms of where I wanted my music to
go. Family encouragement and friends were also a very important
factor.
You have worked alongside a number of artists, how do you
find working with RDB?
I am part of their label now, Three Records and we did the title
track to Yamla Pagla Dewana, a house mix. It's been a awesome
experience and Bollywood projects are great, definitely something I
will be pursuing moving forward.
What other music have you done recently?
My first album, "No Boundaries" was out in 2009, under Times Music
in India. My next album "All New Everything" will be out
in summer 2011. The next single to come out will be
"Supersonic Love", produced by RDB, featuring RDB and Nindy Kaur.
It will be a unique fusion track.
Where do you draw your inspiration from?
From the east, i'll say people like A.R.Rahman, just musically and
technically he is an absolute genius, Mohd Rafi, Kishore Kumar..
all the legends. From the west, i'd say Timbaland, Neptune, The
Coral and so on
Was you surrounded by music growing up, has it always been
a major part of your life?
Always, as a child I used to run around the kitchen with my mum
playing Bollywood tunes. A big part of me is Bollywood, hip
hop urban off course and reggae. Bringing it all together in
the mix is what I do.
Where did you grow up?
I was born in Mumbai, lived there for half my life, then in Dubai
for a bit and then in Toronto since
So a true east meets west background, do you do anything
else apart from music?
Being a Hindi singer and Urban producer, bringing east and west
together is I feel, a unique sound. Aprt from that, I play
football, make remote control airplanes, breed goldfish... anything
crazy and out of the norm (laughs)
So 2011 is looking to be a very exciting year for
you?
Yes, it truly is, thanks to the love and support of friends and
family
What advice do you have for budding artists out
there?
Do it from the heart, there's no one formula.
